Listen Listen

I would much rater listen to a podcast the read the text. I often buy books on tape or find the podcast on the internet for my classes. I like to be able to listen cause I have a 30-40 minute drive to class everyday and it is a great way for me to use this time. I have to read it and can't find a podcast of it I am less likely to read it cover to cover. I will normally just read parts of it to figure out whats going on enough to get buy.
Using a podcasts is a great way to help student prepare for a test in a class. They can find ones on the same subject but is gives more information on it. It may also give the students a different point of view on the same subject or " make that light bulb click".
I do feel that all students have different ways of learning. Some students need to hear things more than once to get it while others know it from the time they hear it. Some students can take notes and listen while other can only do one at a time. I podcast allows for the student to play first and take notes and then play and just listen if needed. Podcast are a great tool that can be used in education.

  1. Your blog about podcasting is very good. Listening to the radio is one thing that I absolutely love to do, but at times it is extrememly annoying. And for an actual a book, I am just like you I would rather listen to a podcast than sit and read a book. If only that were try for everything.

  2. Well, I'm with you guys to an extent. I'm a bit old school (and comparatively older than you guys) and I prefer to read. I like picking up a leather bound copy of one of Dickens' stories, or The Lord of the Rings or a paperback Larry McMurtry novel and read it. It feels, to me a bit more like becoming immersed in the story. Now, I do like my little Ipod shuffle and being able to listen to all those great 70's hits. I have listened to a vew books, but it just doesn't work well for ME. My bookshelves will always remain full of classics and favorites, and when I am gone I'm not sure anyone will want them.
